It's not what you look at that matters - it's what you SEE. - Henry David Thoreau
Perspective. I've been thinking aboutthat word a lot, and I keep coming back to it. Perspective is the way we see things when we look at them from a certain distance and it allows us to appreciate their true value. Sometimes all it takes is a tiny shift in perspective to see something familiar in a whole new light.
I just read this quote...
"When asked if my cup is half-full or half-empty, my only response is that I'm thankful that I have a cup."
That's how I want to live my life - always thankful I have a cup. Sometimes life is hard. Sometimes life isn't fair. But if you can make the choice to shift your perspective, the difficulties in life become much more bearable. And when you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, usually you realize that your problems aren't such a big deal in the first place.
Sometimes you need to get some distance to gain some perspective on life.
For me, it's important to take a step away from the busyness of life. To unplug from my day-to-day routine and do something out of the ordinary. Today I parked blocks away from my destination and just walked instead. Why?... Why not. It was a beautiful morning and I have two legs that work just fine, so why not use them. Maybe I wouldn't have noticed how beautiful it was outside if I hadn't walked. Maybe I wouldn't have stopped and thanked my Creator for a healthy body if I hadn't taken the extra 15 minutes to walk instead of drive. Did it take me longer to get there? Yes. But what's the hurry all the time??
When you change THE WAY you look at things, the things you look at CHANGE.
It's amazing how changing your perspective makes you appreciate so much of your life. Suddenly I love my husband more - and that makes me want to be a better wife. I appreciate my co-workers more - and that makes me a more pleasant person to be around at work. I'm more grateful for my job - and that makes me want to try my best and perform my tasks with excellence.
Instead of wishing I had a bigger house, newer clothes and a faster car - I'm thankful I even have a house, clothing and car in the first place. I'm content. And not only content, I'm happy.
"Life is like a camera - You FOCUS on what's important, CAPTURE the good times, DEVELOP from the negative, and if things don't work out, TAKE ANOTHER SHOT."
