Can you believe it's already 2020?! I feel like this last year has been a bit of a blur! It's been a while since I've released a blog post so I thought I'd tell you a bit about what we've been up to and working on...
We opened our third cafe location this past October! We are so thrilled with how it turned out! It's truly a labour of love, sweat and tears and we did our best to be intentional about every decision - from where to put the ice machine, to hanging purse hooks under our bar seating. It's located in Devonshire Mall, next to Purdys Chocolates, across from Lululemon.
You might be thinking - "The mall? But why the mall?" Well, to be honest we were a bit hesitant at first too. But the more we thought about it, we realized that we have an incredible opportunity. We can create an escape for people in the sometimes hectic chaos of the mall. We also have the opportunity to bring a small local business to a large corporation. We could be the catalyst for change. Now when you shop at the mall you have the opportunity to support local and buy your coffee from a local business, as opposed to just another chain.
And when you support Anchor you're not just supporting one small business - you're supporting several; like Chance Coffee, Windsor Tea Emporium, The Pottery Cupboard, Beekeeper Wraps, Michael Difazio Reclaimed Artistry and others. You're also supporting several local artists who we collaborate with regularly and are stoked to bring attention to their talent and skill.
When we did the buildout for this location we decided from the beginning that we wanted to use local companies, supplies and tradesman as much as possible. The bar seating in the cafe was built from old church pews from a church here in Windsor and restored by a local company. Our menu board was custom built by a local artist. I could go on and on.
Opening this third location also gave us the incredible opportunity to add people to our team and create more jobs in our community. That was one of our goals since day one of starting the company - to create meaningful and enjoyable careers for people. We've all worked jobs where we felt unappreciated, undervalued and invisible. We want to change that. Our goal is to create an atmosphere that is fun to work at, while still getting your job done. We love to come to work because we love what we do and the people we work with. We love making other people's days better.
2019 has been a big year for us - certainly the most challenging, but also very rewarding. We're setting our goals for 2020 and looking forward to the opportunities and challenges this new year brings!
We commit to serving you delicious coffee and tasty food while genuinely caring about you and hopefully making your day better!
